These small encaustic paintings feature a series of photographs of magnolia flowers that the artist took. The photos and the paintings are the artist’s own work. In each of the painting, the artisit is learning different techniques in working with encaustic paint. In one piece, she has created an inlay effect. In another piece, she made a paper stencil to add a design to the painting. This is the second course that the artist took in encaustic painting at Haliburton School of the Arts in Ontario, Canada. She is really enjoying this medium and plans to continue working in this medium as she develops her style in this technique.
Encaustic is a technique of painting with wax on an absorbent surface of natural fibres. It was first developed in ancient Greece. There has been a recent revival of this technique in North America.
